How To: Get Rounded Screen Corners on Your Nexus 7 Tablet for a More Comfortable Display

How To: Get Rounded Screen Corners on Your Nexus 7 Tablet for a More Comfortable Display

Like a beautiful woman, curves can enhance the appeal of certain things, so why not your Nexus 7 tablet? If you're tired of the uniformity of right-angled corners on your screen, add a little character by rounding them out.For this softMod, we'll be using an app called RoundR, which basically adds a dark rounded border to your screens corners. It's a relatively simple mod, but it's not all about just looks—there is some psychology behind it. While squares provide order and containment, circular shapes provide wholeness and comfort. To get your aesthetically pleasing round corners right now, just install the RoundR app by Mohammad Adib (who also created Switchr) on Google Play. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.
From the app's menu, you can enable it to start to boot, so every time you restart your device your corners will be rounded. You can conveniently choose which apps will run with RoundR on, and also pick which corners are rounded, just in case you want to be different. The corner radius scale will allow you to adjust the corner radius anywhere from 1 to 80 degrees. You can also choose to overlap the Status bar, though, I don't think it makes a great difference unless you're using another device like the Nexus 5 (unless you're using the Experience Launcher on your tablet). It really does add a different dimension to your device. The Nexus 7 is basically a big black square, so why not jazz it up? I enjoy something different every now and then. Let me know how you guys felt about it.If you don't necessarily dig the round corners over the square ones, you can also check out Adib's add-on RoundR Extensions ($0.99), which lets you add custom corner designs to enhance and further personalize your screen's look.

News: Everything We Know About the Samsung Galaxy Note7 Right Now

News: Everything We Know About the Samsung Galaxy Note7 Right Now
Samsung will be launching the next edition of its Galaxy Note series in less than a month, and we're starting to get some solid information about the upcoming phablet. As previously rumored, Samsung is skipping a number on this year's model, so the new model will be called the Galaxy Note7.The move to leapfrog "Note6" was made in order to keep the naming convention consistent across all Galaxy devices to help cut down on confusion, according to Samsung. Also, as Evan Blass pointed out, if you count the Note Edge, the upcoming Note7 is technically the seventh iteration of the Galaxy Note line anyway. Now that the name is cleared up, let's go ahead and check out the Galaxy Note7.Don't Miss: Samsung Refreshed Its UI for the Galaxy Note7

First Look at the Note7Images of the Galaxy Note7 have been trickling out over the past few weeks compliments of Blass and NowhereElse (via Weibo). Blass got a hold of some press renders that show the Note7 will come in three colors—Black Onyx, Silver Titanium, and Blue Coral. Image via Evan Blass As expected, the Galaxy Note7 has a curved Edge display, which you can get a better look at in the leaked images from NowhereElse. Images via NowhereElse Images via NowhereElse

The Iris ScannerThese leaked images from SamMobile (via Weibo) confirm earlier reports that the Galaxy Note7 will include an iris scanner that you can use to unlock your device. All you'll have to do to unlock the device is hold it at an arm's length—25 to 35 cm (or about 10 to 14 inches)—from your head, then align your eyes with the two circles on the display. We don't have any verification on this yet, but the iris scanner is rumored to verify users faster than the fingerprint scanner found on previous Galaxy models. Images via SamMobile There's also no word yet on how or if the iris scanner will function with third-party apps, or as authentication for purchases on the Google Play Store, but it will most likely be compatible with Samsung apps like Samsung Pay.
Device SpecificationsIt looks like the previously rumored specs for the Note7 were spot on, but there are a couple more things to add. Firstly, we now know that the Note7 will have a 3,600 mAh battery (other sources claim it will be as high as 4,000 or 4,200 mAh), which is a nice improvement over the 3,000 mAh battery in the Note5.Secondly, the expandable memory slot will actually be a dual microSD/UFS (Universal Flash Storage) tray, allowing the phone to utilize Samsung's new UFS memory cards that are said to be more than five times faster than microSD cards. UFS cards have read speeds of up to 530 MB/second, and write speeds of up to 170 MB/second. Compare that with microSD cards, the fastest of which, at best, read at roughly 95 MB/second, and this is quite the improvement. Basically, this means your expandable storage will seem just as fast as the built-in storage, bridging an important gap.Full Specs5.7-inch QHD curved Super AMOLED display resolution: 1440 x 2560 pixels Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 (USA); Exynos 8893 (Global) 6 GB RAM 64/128/256 GB internal storage compatible with microSD/UFS cards up to 256 GB 12 MP rear camera 5 MP front camera redesigned S Pen stylus Android 7.0 Nougat 3,600 mAh battery
Launch DateSamsung is holding several launch events on August 2, 2106 to unveil the Galaxy Note7. The initial launch will take place in New York at 8 a.m. Pacific (11 a.m. Eastern), and you'll be able to watch it on samsung.com or Samsung Newsroom.Later, there will be simultaneous events in London and Rio de Janeiro, beginning at 1 p.m. Pacific (4 p.m. Eastern). Speaking of Rio, Samsung is a major sponsor of the upcoming Summer Olympics, so there's a good chance that there will be some sort of tie-in to show off the Note7 at the games.Follow Gadget Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and YouTube Follow Apple Hacks on Facebook and Twitter Follow Android Hacks on Facebook and Twitter Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+

How To: Sync Your Android Text Messages and Phone Calls with Your Web Browser

A lot of people text nonstop, but there are situations where it's either not allowed or considered rude to use your phone. Let's say you're in class or in a meeting at work, band you're expecting an important message or phone call. Rather than trying to check your phone discreetly, wouldn't it be better if you could just see your calls and messages on your computer? An Android app called MightyText lets you sync all your text messages with your web browser so you can read and respond to them. It works on both Mac and PC with all the major browsers, plus most tablets. All you have to do is install the app on your smartphone, then the extension for whichever browser you're using. Image via ggpht.com The app uses the Google account connected to your phone to route your text messages and phone calls to your browser. It also shows you the current battery life left on your phone and works even if you don't have it nearby—as long as it's turned on with data enabled. Image via mightytext.net Incoming messages are shown as pop-up notifications and conversations are carried on via the web app. You can either use the traditional list view that's similar to Skype's interface with conversations in a sidebar, or the new "PowerView" that shows them all at once in a grid. Image via googleusercontent.com Depending on which browser and operating system you use, there might be a few extra steps to install it. You can find instructions for each different setup here.MightyText is a great solution for carrying on conversations at work, or if you happen to leave your phone at home or in your car. Besides, who doesn't type faster on a keyboard than a touch screen? You can find more details and the download over on Google Play. News: The Razer Phone 2 Goes Official with 2018 Internals in a 2017 Body

News: The Razer Phone 2 Goes Official with 2018 Internals in a 2017 Body
Late last year, we got a little surprise from Razer. The gaming company released its first smartphone, and as expected, it targeted gamers. Branded as a gaming phone, it started a trend which several other companies followed soon after, including ASUS, Xiaomi, and even Samsung. So as you can imagine, many are excited about its successor.Razer had one of the few phones last year that made conscious decisions in both the design and software experience of the phone. The higher refresh rate screen, the stereo speakers, even the placement of the fingerprint scanner were designed for the best experience whether you were gaming or watching videos. However, it wasn't flawless. Its boxy design, LCD panel, and lack of headphone jack did deter some folks. So with Razer's second try, fans are hoping they improve on the failures and add new features.

SpecsOS: Android 8.1 Oreo CPU: Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 GPU: Adreno 630 RAM: 8 GB Storage: 64 or 512 GB Display: 5.72-inch 120 Hz IGZO QuadHD LCD Rear Cameras: Dual 12 MP Front Cameras: No info Audio: Dual front-facing speakers Battery: 4,000 mAh Image via Razer

Similar Design with RGBRazer heavily borrowed from last year's design, offering a phone which is about the same dimensions as last year (the length and depth are the same, the width is 0.05 inches larger). Except for this year's glass back, it is difficult to tell the two phones apart. However, one significant addition (depending on who you ask) is the inclusion of Razer Chroma. Chroma is Razer's RGB software included in all of their gaming products, from laptops to speakers. The logo on the back is now controllable using Chroma, so you can configure the color to change based on your preference. Whether you want the RGB to reflect what happens in the game you're playing or inform you of alerts, the possibilities are endless. Image via Razer
A Return of Those Great SpeakersBesides the 120 Hz Ultramotion Display, one of the most standout features of the first Razer Phone was its front-facing stereo speakers. Each speaker had dedicated amplifiers, supported Dolby Atmos, and were THX certified. The result was some of the loudest and clearest speakers ever on a smartphone, dwarfing the performance of many laptop speakers. These speakers are making a return in the Razer Phone 2, in the same position as last year.
5.72" 120 Hz QuadHD IGZO LCDOnce again, the Razer Phone 2 will have the highest refresh rate on a smartphone at 120 Hz. The panel, which they introduced with the predecessor, is a 2560 x 1440 IGZO LCD panel. However, thanks to IGZO tech, Razer can double the standard refresh rate of other phones, improving how everything is displayed on the Razer Phone 2, especially when gaming. But because the Razer Phone 2 is a gaming phone, Razer is aware of the problem that comes with a higher refresh rate: screen tearing. Their solution here is known as Ultramotion. Razer Phone 2 once again adopts this adaptive sync technology which matches the refresh rate of the display to the frames being generated by the GPU. With these two things in line, the picture generated is smooth and fluid, making gaming better.Don't Miss: How Razer Used IGZO Display Tech to Achieve 120 Hz Refresh Rates

Updated SpecsThe Razer Phone 2 will be receiving an upgrade to its SoC to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. This is the best SoC available to non-Huawei, non-Samsung, and non-Apple devices, and easily runs all the latest games on the highest settings, including PUBG Mobile and Fortnite.Razer is also bringing back the 8 GB of RAM which they included in the predecessor. Which such a large amount of RAM, not only does gaming performance remain top notch, but so do everyday tasks. Similar to its predecessor, the Razer Phone 2 will cache many background apps, allowing you to easily jump back into an app you switched from a while back. There will be a 512 GB storage option, just like the new iPhone XS, XS Max, and Galaxy Note 9. However, unlike the iPhones, Razer Phone 2 will have expandable storage, supporting up to 2 TB (when a large enough microSD card is created). While Razer did include one of the better USB-C dongles for wired headphones, it doesn't replace the ease of use of a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Despite the community's outcry, Razer will once again forgo this port on the Razer Phone 2.However, Razer was able to improve dust and water resistance on the Razer Phone 2. The new model is IP67, making it completely dust-proof. It also means it can remain submerged in up to one meter of water for up to 30 minutes. This is a pretty big surprise, especially since the speculation around the internet was that the speakers prevented the possibility of water resistance. Good job, Razer! Finally, despite the near-stock experience, Razer is opting for Android 8.1 Oreo instead of Android 9.0 Pie. It is a bit disappointing because Razer Phone 2 users would benefit from the new UI and gesture controls. However, if last year's model is any indication, Razer will quickly update the phone to Android 9.0 Pie. Image via Razer
Price & AvailabilityThe Razer Phone 2 will start at $799 for the 64 GB version. There's only one color: Mirror Black. Preorders will start on October 11, just after midnight Pacific time (in other words, as soon as the calendar flips over from October 10 to October 11). There's no word yet on when devices will start shipping, but we'll keep you posted.Don't Miss: Is Razer's Project Linda Finally Happening?Follow Gadget Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Flipboard Sign up for Gadget Hacks' daily newsletter or weekly Android and iOS updates Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Flipboard

Instagram Stories goes beyond just its Snapchat-like features, but also allows you to create more creative and original content to post on your actual profile page.Instead of just posting another picture of your food or a video of your dog attacking you, why don't you do something a bit different? This is something I realized the other day. Why am I just posting the same old pictures? Why don't I decorate them? So that's exactly what I started to do.Within Stories, there are a number of things you can use to add to your photos and videos. You can add stickers, graphics, text, hashtags, filters, locations, and many other possibilities. Stories is really available for you to use whichever way you want it.Don't Miss: How to Hide Hashtags and Locations in Your Instagram Stories to Increase EngagementFor instance, take a photo in Stories or use one that you have saved from earlier before. (Just remember that Stories will decrease the quality of any landscape image/video you upload because of how it expands it).Once in Stories, filter for that image or video and select it. Now, well, get creative! Add a Magnum bar to it or a bunch of emoji hearts. Just make it you, and use it to promote whatever image it is that you sell. Your Instagram account will stand out beyond the everyday aesthetically pleasing look of most IG feeds and have an extra Storied touch to it.After decorating your post in Stories, save it to your camera roll or gallery by tapping "Save" at the bottom left-hand corner of your screen. Go back to your main profile page and go to upload a normal post like you always would. You should now see the Storied-out image or video in your camera roll or gallery.Pro tip: You can edit the photo/video first in Instagram, then decorate it later on in Stories. How To: Transfer Your Authy Account to a New Phone

How To: Transfer Your Authy Account to a New Phone
One of the main reasons Authy was able to top our list of the best two-factor authentications apps was its ability to transfer access to a new device. This feature ensures that whenever you get a new phone, you don't lose all your tokens. However, if the process is done incorrectly, you can leave your account vulnerable. With Authy, you don't have to worry about losing access to important online accounts just because your phone gets lost, broken, or stolen. You can either transfer the access from one phone to another or keep your account accessible on two devices, so it is even easier to access your tokens. Both options have similar procedures, only differing by one step, which I'll outline belowDon't Miss: The 5 Best Two-Factor Authentication Apps for iPhone & Android

Step 1: Download Authy on the New PhoneObviously, you need Authy on the new phone to get started. Head over to the Play Store or App Store and download Authy.Install Authy: Android (free) | iOS (free)

Step 2: Enable Multi-DeviceTo transfer access, you need to enable Multi-Device, a feature which is disabled by default. On your old phone, open Authy and select "Settings" (on iOS) or the three vertical dots then "Settings" (on Android). The next page looks different depending on which operating system your device uses. For iOS, select the "Devices" tab located at the bottom of your screen. For Android, you'll find the same tab near the top of the screen. Once under the tab, select "Allow Multi-device" to enable the toggle.

Step 3: Transfer AccessOn your new phone, when you open Authy, a page will appear asking for your phone number. Authy uses your phone number as a way to store your account, making it easier to retrieve. Once inputted, a new prompt will appear asking you to verify your account in one of three ways: using your old device, by phone, or by SMS. Since using an existing phone is both the easiest and safest method, we will start with that one. Select "Use existing device" to reveal a new prompt asking you to wait for approval. On your old phone, a notification will appear asking you to approve the new device. Select "Accept," which prompts a new popup asking you to input "Yes" (on iOS) or "OK" (on Android). Input the text and select "OK," and after a few seconds, your new device will have access to your account. If you don't have the old phone (because it's broken or stolen), you can still use "SMS" or "Phone call" to input the code. Choosing "SMS" will have the system send you a text message with your code, which you input in the prompted area. For "Phone call," Authy will call your phone number and read off the code you need to enter. Once the code is correctly entered, you can see all your accounts.

Step 4: Unlock Your DatabaseYou may have noticed that all your accounts have a small red padlock next to their name. This icon indicates that these accounts are encrypted and require a passcode to be entered before you can access them. Select an account to bring up the "Decrypt Accounts" page. Input your password (the one you created when you first signed up for Authy) and select the button.Once done correctly, you will no longer see the red padlock and you'll be able to see each token for your accounts.

Step 5: Protect Your AccountNow that you have successfully transferred your accounts, let us re-establish protection. First, whether you are getting rid of your old phone or plan to keep it, you'll want to make sure someone else can't access your account using just your password.Since spoofing phone numbers is possible, you need to prevent a potential hacker from also adding their device to the list of connected devices. Therefore, you should turn off "Allow multi-device" (which you enabled in Step 2). By disabling this feature, a hacker won't be able to transfer access to their device.Second, if you plan to sell your old phone, or it was lost or stolen, you should remove its access so that someone using those devices can't access your tokens. Enter "Settings," and under "Devices," select a device under the grouping Other Connected Devices. Tap the "Remove Device" button and select "Yes" on the popup. Now that access it removed, a few things happen. Any Authy-powered tokens (ones which use Authy's push notifications to send tokens) will no longer work on the new device. Backup and sync will also stop working, preventing any permanent changes to your tokens. The removed device will also not be able to add new tokens or authorize new devices. You should be aware that it won't block access to tokens not powered by Authy (which will probably be most accounts), so we strongly recommend using a password manager on those accounts to strengthen your other layer of defense.Don't Miss: How To Set Up Two-Factor Authentication for Your Accounts Using Authy & Other 2FA AppsFollow Gadget Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Flipboard Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Flipboard
