How To: This Cydia Tweak Caps Your App Usage on Your iPhone So You Can Be a More Productive You
Self-restraint is one of the hardest thing to do. I'm a world-class procrastinator, and one of the biggest causes for my procrastination is my iPhone. Temple Run 2 was probably the best and worst thing that could have happened to me.Understanding the difficulty of moderation, the Cydia Store offers an app that can help curb our appetites for awesome games and social networking. So, for all you jailbreakers out there, check out AppCap in the Cydia Store. The name speaks for itself, limiting the amount of access you have to any given app. It's like your own personal digital willpower provider. Once you download the app, you can enable it in Settings on your iPhone. You can then choose any app that you have installed on your device. Just enter in the app name exactly as it appears on your Spring Board. From there, you can decide how you want the app to be "capped." You can choose to have a pop-up reminder to deter you from using the app, or just have it stop the app from launching after you've used up all your time. You can also cap an application so that it only runs when you are connected to a Wi-Fi network. This is not only a great way to slow down your usage of a particular app, but it's also extremely useful for keeping your data consumption down. You can also set a time restriction on an app. If you've been staying up until 3 a.m. trying to beat the Spooky Box in Cut the Rope, you can set a time restriction that blocks the app from opening after a certain hour. There are also options for the number of times an app can be opened within a specific time frame (10 times in an hour) and for the number of times an app can be launched.AppCap is a very simple, but very useful application for people trying to be a little more productive. You can also install it on your children's phones to cap their usage of time consuming applications like Facebook or Twitter. As of now, AppCap can only manage one application at a time, but there will likely be more support in the coming updates. Know of any other great apps for increasing productivity? Let us know in the comments below.
